The flight to Delhi
Farewell to Varanasi, Kingfisher Airlines, and soothing hotel Shanti Home in Delhi
Morning we spent packing, and later having still half an hour or so, we went hastily to do some very last shopping. I felt tears in my eyes.
Just today was some Muslim festival and an enormous crowd of people in the street was moving into the direction of a mosque. The whole streets full of men dressed in white, sometimes you could spot some beautiful women in costumes, and we, squeezed in a car, tried to move forward through the crowd.
We had a plane to Delhi in the afternoon, but had to leave in the morning to have enough time for reaching the airport and the clearance. Formalities at the airport took quite a long time. When I was filling another tag for our luggage, I suddenly saw their picture of Shahid (Shahid Kapoor). On the picture he was advertising backpack and at the same time presenting his magnificent musculature. This made me happier.
Kingfisher plane was very luxurious. There was live TV (movies!) and delicious food, all in all a very nice way of traveling.
When we arrived in Delhi, a taxi driver arranged by the hotel was waiting for us. This time we booked a more expensive and more luxurious hotel. We wanted to rest after a bit spartan conditions of Varanasi.
Shanti Home hotel staff greeted us with garlands, we were offered a chilled juice and introduced to all the facilities in the hotel and restaurants. Our room - a bollywood theme (as if somebody was reading my mind) was very tastefully decorated. Four-poster bed (unfortunately, without curtains), with a shining golden pillows, everywhere typically Indian furniture, carved interestingly .... oh I wish I could take all this to my home .... Just I do not know why the walls were painted red - perhaps someone associates bollywood with red color ....
The decor throughout the hotel was breath taking. It looked like a shop with Indian furniture. In the restaurant on the roof of the hotel there was a wooden swing as in the movies, of course I had to try if after dinner.
In the evening, We tried to make it to church, but did not have correct information about the time of the mass (we looked it up in www.masstimes.org, but the time there was wrong!!!), so we were too late. We went to a store to buy an external drive so I can download the pictures from my mom's notebook. It turned out that the church and also the shop was very far away from the hotel, and all in all we spent more than 2 hours in the car while driving to church first and then to the store. In the shop I had to bargain a little, because they pull the prices as high as possible of course, but after all, I could not buy this disk cheaper than in Europe ...
